Cannon et al. performed a retrospective analysis of the UNOS database from January 2005 to March of 2011, which included 52,052 kidney recipients.
They found that there was:
- Significantly less DGF in both
- Propensity matched cohort (21.1% MP vs 29.1% SCS)
- Paired kidney cohort (19.7% MP vs 27.5% SCS)
- For every 12.5 kidneys treated with MP, one episode of DGF is prevented relative to the CS group
They concluded that, given this evidence of reduced DGF, it might be advisable to substantially expand the use of MP beyond the current levels in the United States.
